Out-of-pocket infertility costs vary widely
January 1st 2014Out-of-pocket costs for couples being treated for infertility range from a low of $912 for medication only to $19,234 for in vitro fertilization (IVF), according to researchers who say their data will help couples plan for the expenses they may incur. The current study is published online in the Journal of Urology ahead of the February 2014 print issue.

November 27th 2013A retrospective analysis of more than 400,000 U.S. births over nearly 6 years shows that delivery of triplets or more costs 20 times as much as a singleton. Published in The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the report may be the first to look at medical expenses for both maternal and infant care associated with IVF-assisted pregnancy.

Investigational fertility treatment approved by FDA
September 12th 2013The US Food and Drug Administration approved the new drug application (NDA) for Merck’s investigational fertility treatment corifollitropin alfa. Merck is seeking approval for the use of corifollitropin alfa in controlled ovarian stimulation (COS). If approved, the drug would be the first sustained follicular stimulant available in the United States.
